Books and Reading: Overdrive for E-readers: Adobe Digital Editions

Explore and learn about how to download content on your e-reader with Overdrive.

Adobe Digital Editions

The first step is to visit OverDrive on your computer: http://selco.lib.overdrive.com and log in to your account with your library card number; it is recommended that you bookmark this page so it will be easily accessible in future use.

You will need to download Adobe Digital Editions and create an Adobe ID if you don’t already have one. Here is a link to download the needed software (http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions/download.html)

In OverDrive, use ADVANCED SEARCH (link on left hand side) to find something to checkout right away. Click on ADVANCE SEARCH (also on top-right of every page in Overdrive) and then enter an author you like.  Under format choose the “EPUB eBook” format. Then at the bottom, click the "show only titles with copies available" box.

After you find an eBook you like click on the cover or title, and then click on BORROW.  The eBook is now checked out to you; next you will click on BOOKSHELF.  In your BOOKSHELF page you can download the title to your computer (or device*) by clicking on the DOWNLOAD button.  Be sure to select ADOBE EPUB eBook from the drop-down menu, and then click on CONFIRM AND DOWNLOAD.

You may get a window that asks if you want to save or open a file.  Click on “Open” and it will open Adobe Digital Editions and the “Setup Assistant” will ask you to sign in with your Adobe ID.  If you don’t have one, you can get one here:https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/

After you sign in, your eBook will start downloading automatically.

After it is done downloading, connect your Nook to your pc and click on "Library View" (it's the icon that looks like three books in the top left corner of the program).  Then click and drag the title to your Adobe EPUB compatible eReader on the left side of Adobe Digital Editions.  The eBook will then be on your eReader for you to enjoy.
